The Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) provides an easier immigration pathway to the so-called “CETA work permit.” A large portion of CETA work permits can be renewed at the discretion of the immigration officer. The liberal professions and contractual service providers may only be increased to a total of 12 months within 24 months. The sub-categories of persons transferred within the group: management staff and professionals may be extended by 18 months. On the other hand, graduate trainees should not be extended at all.
